power plug loose, tighten screw?

#1 Post by nikemen » Thu May 04, 2006 4:15 pm

So, the female part of my T41, is getting loose from a fall, or whatever.

seems there is a phillips screw in there, does anyone know if that is what holds it in there?

if YES, is there a way to get near it without taking off the LCD?

What is then the best way to get the LCD free enough, just to do a couple of turns on the screw?

No, the yellow female portion of the AC coupling is getting loose.

Are you sure it is getting that much pore loose though? It does have some play even when you plug the adapter in to start out with.

yes, it is the yellow female portion, IN the thinkpad that is getting loose, loser.

I can see a screw there, but not 100% sure that is the screw for this item, or as well how best to get to it. It is not accessable with the LCD in place.

See this very recent thread on the same general topic.

Cheers,

but,

I tried reading the instrucitons for LCD removal, just to get it off enough to be able to get to that screw.

HOW does one get the LCD off? I removed the four screws on the back of the 14" LCD, but the dang thing would NOT budge.

Loose power connection

This won't answer your question about how to get inside your computer to access the yellow "DC power jack", but I'm having the same problem myself (loose jack/computer having trouble getting power) and have been looking into it. I had the same trouble once before and sent it back, under warranty, and IBM fixed the problem by replacing the system board. Now that I'm having the same problem again, though still under warranty, IBM won't fix it because I have "spill damage" they say voids my warranty.

So, from what I've researched (mind, I'm not a computer repairman), the problem is essentially a common wear-and-tear issue, the problem either with the part itself (found online from about $9.00-$35.00) or loosening of its soldered connection to the system board. I called around to repair shops and have been told that the dc jack can be repaired/replaced for about $120.00. We'll see. Hope some of this helps you out. Kathy

Of course not!

You need to download and look at the Hardware Maintenance Manual to see the other screws that need removing. For the 14.1" LCD, there are 2 screws under the keyboard bezel on the left side, and although the Hardware Maintenance Manual doesn't mention it, it appears in the illustration that there may be one under the keyboard bezel on the right side.

FYI, the 15" LCD is attached differently than the 14.1" LCD.

EDIT: 14.1" LCD assembly removal begins on page 120 of the HMM.

I'll go over it again,

no, I didn't remove the keyboard, thinking, looking that there are four screws on the back where the LCD is, and I "thought" that well, what the heck could the keyboard screws have to do with that?

I mean, I cannot IMAGINE that a screw all the way by the keyboard is doing something to attach the LCD?

but then again, there I go THINKING again.
