Is an IPS technology LCD screen present on both models of T60, with 14.1" and/or 15"?

no. only the 15" models.

If I remember correctly, IPS was also only offered on the 15" LCDs on the T4X Series. How and why is this a new problem?

Well I'd hope by now they put IPS on 14.1" screens.

I'd hope by now, they put more features in laptops, since competitors are catching up.

I haven't seen other companies catching up with Thinkpads where it matters; I have used 15" and 14.1" T4X Thinkpads and while I do like the 15" screen, I can't justify including it as a must-have feature...The LCDs on Thinkpads are already pretty good; actually better in most cases, looking at what other laptop companies do. X

Brite, for example, looks too refelective and bright to me. I have also encountered nasty glare issues with other laptop screens under high fluorescent lighting situations that simply came about because they decided to gloss the screen over and turn up the default brightness, also reducing the battery life.

It would be nice, yes...but I usually use the LCD on the lowest brightness setting anyway and have no problems with it. Maybe they are holding off putting IPS on 14.1" screens for some technical reason...or maybe they just haven't thought to do it yet.

IPS is a must....

TFT is way worse than IPS technology, compare side by side, you'll se what I'm talking

IPS will give you angles, color and contrast, but you will loose in response time; but screw that - give me a beautiful screen!!!

I agree with Chris on this. IPS isn't a must, though I don't have a T60 or a T43, and probably won't unless I win the lottery or get one when they are about 5-6 years old.

I am very happy with the displays on my T21 and my R40 (which is brighter). I have played around with some of the other brands that have these superbright or reflective displays and I still prefer mine.

I would never consider TFT worse, maybe different, but not worse.

I've got one foot planted firmly on either side of the fence, with a 14.1" T41 and a 15" T60 in my current lineup (both are SXGA+).

Each machine offers a unique and diverse set of advantages, but I've reached a point where display quality is now a more relevant concern than extreme portability, so the 15" Flexview was an easy choice for me this time.

In my opinion, there is more to the equation than simply screen brightness or viewing angles. Were Lenovo to offer a 14" Flexview, I'm still not sure it would supplant the 15" because the smaller footprint must always be accompanied by a more compact screen configuration. Sometimes, there is just no substitute for the added real estate, even at the same basic resolutions.

All of this notwithstanding, I think the basic rationale behind IBM/Lenovo's business decision here has to do with the fact that the smaller T series is really optimized for life on the road, and battery life is of paramount concern in such applications. A compact 150 nit TFT fits the bill nicely in that respect, whereas a less-efficient Maxbright and/or Flexview IPS would not.
