My Thinkpad "wrench" Addiction... (?)
I just got finished going through my entire T20, replacing worn parts, swapping some out for new, etc. The more I worked on it, the more fun I had. I couldn't wait for the new parts I bought on E-bay to arrive so that I could continue my "wrenching". I bought a pair of magnifying glasses as some of the work (those tiny screws) require more visual acuity than my eyes can muster. Well, now that I'm finished with the T20, I'm setting my sights on rebuilding a T23 as some of my other T20 parts are swappable. After spending so much time on the first rebuild, the 2nd should be a breeze. I don't have a real need for another laptop. Does anyone else here suffer from this potential "addiction"? Should I take up painting instead?

you're not alone... Hello my name is Bill and I am also a Thinkpad Wrencher.
I started with a T21, did the 5400RPM HDD upgrade + RAM, then after an accident, replaced the base with a T23 1GHZ, (which i had to jimmy and cut to fit the keyboard bezel) bought MORE RAM, and I just got a great deal on a 1.2GHZ P3 on ebay.
Ive got everything 'unnecessary' in the system properties disabled, the fan temp controlled on a tight leash with tpfancontrol, and the S3 chip underclocked. All to keep the base cool on my lap and to eek out a few more seconds on battery.
And one more tip: I've been trying out K-meleon (http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/) and it SCREAMS on my TP!

(me) Hi, my name is Steve, and I'm a Thinkpad addict.
(all of you) Hi, Steve.
About 3 years ago, my brother bought a T-20, and since I'm his tech support, I got one too, off of Ebay, and in parts.
Since then, I have sold about 2 dozen, most from parts off of Ebay, and to friends and family. I'm even making a little money off of it.
My favourite is the T-23, and my current "keeper" is a T-23 with the 1.2, and the wireless capable LCD. All I need to finish this, is the wireless card, and 2 sticks of 512 memory.
The timeless style of the Thinkpad, and the fact that a 14 inch portable DVD player is going to be over $300, will ensure the value of a T2* at over $300, for the near future.

Wrenching
I've done a little in the past with others (760s, 380s, i1400), but now I'm about to embark on A/Ts. My beloved T23 took a spill a couple of weeks ago and has a cracked lid. It's about to get a new cover. I bought a derelict A22m off of ebay with a cracked screen and a password lock on the MB. That's about to get to work installing a 14.1" screen on it and do a password chip swap.
So any prayer, and or incantations will be welcome!

I'd say there are quite a few ThinkPad addicts that frequent this board.
I've torn into quite a few ThinkPads over the years, myself. Mostly with positive results
