lithium: i would like to know why you say it wouldnt work. the boards look like they are identical and should fit. have you tried it?? if it doesnt fit perfectly would there be a way to make some minor modifications to the chassis in order to get it to fit? the reason im curious about this is that i have a T40 with a bad motherboard, and it'd be nice to "upgrade" to the latest board avaliable in the T4x series. i know the T42 fits as well as the T41, however im very interested in possibly getting a T43 board to fit. please give us a reason why you say it won't work.

What bad fan algorithm?gunston wrote:probably it would be better to upgrade to T42 motherboard, in that case you may save the trouble and T43 motherboard, well bad fan algorithm by IBM, and the PCI stuff get to heat up easily.
I have heard a signifcant portion of T42s that managed to be noisier than my T43 at max.
If you want to catch all of the performance features on a T4X main board, you might as well go with a T43 board.
It isn't a matter of being "better," it is a matter of what fits the requirements at hand.
I also see no reason why a T43 main board shouldn't fit into a T40 chassis.

Hi,
I have put many T43 boards into T41 chassis's and they have fitted and worked fine, you will need to use a T43 Pcmcia unit though as the t40 and t41 units are a different connection, everything else will fit without any problems. You will also need to change the memory as it runs at 4200 instead of 2100 and the processor.
