is "4400 mAH" the best battery for my T30

#1 Post by BikerMike » Sat May 06, 2006 11:45 pm

I just bought a used T30 on eBay, and I need to put a better battery in (I get less than an hour's use out of the one that came with it). This is my first Thinkpad - any advice about what I should be looking for? I did try a search of the forum on this topic, but it turned up huge quantities of off-topic material (perhaps a better search string...)

That would be the highest capacity I think they ever made the T30 batteries in. I've been warned to watch out for the 3rd party replacement batteries, as they have a short lifespan, or so i've been told. If you really do need more battery life, maybe consider an ultrabay battery?

Ultrabay ok for T30?

#3 Post by BikerMike » Sun May 07, 2006 6:51 pm

The ultrabay batteries I've seen for sale on eBay all seem to say "compatible with T2x" or "compatible with T4x" - does the ultrabay battery work with the T30?

I think it'll take an ultrabay 2000 battery, just like those found in the T2x series (hell, its the same primary battery type too)

Ultrabay Battery

#5 Post by schen » Sun May 07, 2006 9:23 pm

The T30 should take the Ultrabay battery with no problems. Those batteries have a capacity of 3456mah which is pretty close to the capacity of the original T2x batteries. Of course, the T30 batteries have around a 4400mah, but the Ultrabay battery still should give it a good boost.

You can find them pretty regularly on ebay. You just have to find one that's new or in good shape.

I now have a new (but non-OEM) main battery on order, and a used (but in good shape) Ultrabay battery on order. When I get them and test them I'll post my lifespan results.
Thanks for the advice, everyone.
