Thinkpad Z60m: Using Fan Control to Cool Overclock

Hey guys,

Im running Omega drivers on my Z60m with an ATI X300 video card. I overclock the GPU with ATI Tray tool, and get some really impressive numbers out of it (will post later). The only problem is im concerned with high temps after a couple hours of use. So I downloaded fan control, not to slow down the fan and reduce fan noise, but to speed it up. I am well aware of how to use the program, and by the way Shimodax the tool works great on the z60m, no problems so far. Anyway, im setting the fan to level 7 and leaving it there (about 3200 rpm), but i want to go higher (im able to get the fan to spin at a constant 4500 rpm, value = 96) My only concern is burning out my fan. Anyone out there using fan conrol for a similar purpose have any feedback here?
The z60 fan runs at low rpm, usually around 2700, even when my system heats up to 70 degrees C (under normal gaming conditions, no overclock). I find this weird, but I believe critical temp is well over 80 C. So for a fan that runs sooo slow (unlike that annoying T series fan ) is it ok for me to spin it up like this?

It should be fine; there is a way to get it higher, but it is *not* recommended and could cause lasting damage. By the way, where did you get the idea that the T Series fans were annoying?

I've been tweaking my x300 gpu for awhile now and I seemed to have maxed it out at core = 428mhz Mem = 380mhz (i can push it slightly faster but im concerned about stability). I think this overclock is pretty good, im not sure what others are getting though (stock core = 297 Mem = 230). I was playing F.E.A.R with the overclocked settings and I'm getting between 45-90 FPS. I have everything at max except lighting, and have AA off. While playing im running fan control, and have my fan spinning at 4500 rpm, and the lap top is very cool, im actually going to turn the rpm's down a little.

I'm really happy that I'm able to get this kind of 3d performance out of a main stream gpu. Anyone else out there overclocking a mobility x300 let me know what you've got it up to, or any tricks to get this thing going even faster.

I have over-clocked the x300 on my T43 somewhat, I wound up somewhere near your settings...but I didn't keep it like that, just testing it out to see what would work.
