Port Replicator II w/ Undocked Thinkpad LCD Resolution Issue

#1 Post by Initial D » Mon May 08, 2006 3:54 pm

I have a Dell 2005FPW (20.1" Widescreen LCD) connected by DVI to my Port Replicator II.

In my Presentation Director, I have the LCD set to 1680x1050 resolution whenever the T43 is docked only. No output to Thinkpad LCD. Everything is fine when I dock the Thinkpad.

But whenever I undock my T43 and boot it up, the resolution of the Thinkpad LCD starts with a resolution lower than 1400x1050 (native), so I always have to change it (go to display properties) whenever it's undocked.

I was wondering if there is a way to fix this? Maybe I have my schemes/settings incorrect?

Do you really mean you undock and then reboot the TP? Not "restore from suspend" or "restore from hibernate?"

Have you checked what is in the "My Normal Display Settings" entry in Presentation Director to ensure it is set for 1400x1050 resolution?

Cheers,

Bill

Yes, it does. Now it just makes me wonder more what's changing it to lower than 1400x1050.

Just an idea. You might want to try uninstalling Presentation Director, reboot, then use a registry cleaner to remove any traces of Presentation Director. Then you could install Presentation Director again. If that doesn't fix it, you might want to try the same thing with the display driver (ATI or whatever).

My guess is that a registry setting is causing your problem. Be doing the above, hopefully you will remove the problem registry setting and get things working correctly.

Before you uninstall the whole kit and kaboodle, undock and reboot your lappie, set the res where you want it, launch Presentation Manager, highlight "My Normal display settings," and click CAPTURE. It sets the default (not factory default) settings. Reboot in and out of the dock a few times (oh, fun, I know).

Ought to do it ... I had problems similar to this until I learned this trick.
