What I copy-and-pasted was from the Tabook, which is as definitive as you can get. The motherboard chipset is designed to use 4200 and so that's the fastest RAM speed you can achieve, and if you install 5300 sticks on this laptop, the RAM will not run at 5300 but instead only at 4200. The reason some people would rather buy 5300 sticks for the T43 even though they aren't any faster is that these sticks would also work on machines that take 5300 memories, e.g. the T60, so that if you later upgrade from T43 to T60, you can re-use the memory. If 4200 and 5300 modules cost the same amount of money, I would prefer to buy the latter too, but they are always much more expensive.

I had an engineer come round and he seemed like a nice guy, I asked him to use my thermal paste and he did and he asked about the RAM and I said, to be honest I don't know. It's second hand.

You would have thought IBM were quite strict on stuff like the thermal paste they used, as a matter of not wanting extra expense later for fixing something to do with a product they haven't tested or certified.

Very pleased. Now I've got to get them to come out and do my screen before the warranty's up :)
