remove "login to enroll fingerprints" startup mess

Does anyone know how to hide the "login to enroll fingerprints" message that appears in the top left of the startup & login screens in XP, but without actually going through the process of enrolling the fingerprints?

I am setting up 2 software images for a T60 standard machine and while having the fingerprint reader is good and usefull for corporate users, it is not usefull when you do not know who will inherit the machine and can make it part of the software image.

I would like to hide that message, and it seems to be an overlay not a changed graphic, so I assume it cannot be that difficult...

Any ideas?

Go to the "Control Center" for the Fingerprint software and try changing the System settings ("Disable Logon Support"), I guess that should work (can't test it myself now, reqiures reload).

Many Thanks Hamid! Worked like a charm. I went in and disabled the "Control Center" at startup and now the message is gone. Beautifull.

Now if it was this easy to get Lenovo not to install the crap Symantec AV or ANY other AV client for that matter, and simply give us a choice at startup, now that would be real progress

Does anyone actually use their fingerprint scanner for security/password?

If Thinkpad can improve the fingerprint software to enable different username/password combos for different internet web sites, that would get interesting...
(There was some talk last year on this feature, but seems to be on hold now after the Lenovo news broke out...)



I bought my T42s (2373-K5H) because that model was the only one guaranteed to have Win'XP SP2 preinstalled...

AFAIK it does! It may not work with all browsers, but I am sure I have read other users using it on various web sites. Use the Search button at the top of the page to find out the particulars. (I don't personally have the fingerprint reader, so I don't have your answers)

I do; it is actually quite quick and efficient, locking down a password with a super-password and your fingerprint is a good idea. As far as I know, you could also come up with a PGP-ish like key system, one-time pad, two-use pad, etc. Although that takes a tad more work. I have gotten it to work with Firefox and IE, and I haven't tried it on any other browser...yet.
