HELP! T30 MYSTERY IDE CONTROLLER?

#1 Post by DJMic » Thu May 11, 2006 11:44 pm

FIRST POST...
FIRST PROBLEM...
Please don't let me down I hope someone can help shed some light on this problem.

First off let me start by saying one day I just turned on the laptop and it would not load the operating system it gave me the error "NTLDR Not Found" CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart. I removed the hard drive and put it in to my external USB bay and hooked it to my desktop. The hard drive did not even have a partion setup it was gone and obviously it was corrupted.

So I reinstalled Windows and sure enough 2 days later it did it again to me. At this point I knew something was wrong and not just a bad Windows load.

I have tried 3 different hard drives, and I can now make the laptop corrupt the hard drive by installing windows, booting to windows, remove the battery then remove the power plug the battery back in and try booting only to see the "NTLDR Not Found"

I have also put in a brand new CMOS battery.

I have a T30 Laptop motherboard P/N 91P7697 with Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M 2.2GHz CPU, 2x256MB, 40GB, WiFi, Bluetooth, WindowsXP Pro.

I have setup windows on this laptop 7-8 times trying figure out what is causing this problem.

I have current BIOS Ver. 2.09
I have current Embedded Controller Ver. 1.07

Anyone seen this before or know what would cause this?

I have tried going down in BIOS version and Controller version same thing.

Sounds like the IDE controller on the motherboard is dying, and unfortunatly, the only way to replace that is to replace the motherboard.

I had this exact same thing happen on an old Athlon rig with that travesty of a chipset, the KT133.

This is what everyone keeps telling me I wonder what exactly that means IDE Controller is dying.

Anyone know which chip on the board is the actual IDE controller?
