I dont really know if thats a good deal but that laptop seems to be very "rare" almost.

IBM released the G40/G41 and then stopped the line. It also happens to be the only TP with an nvidia card.

Seems like a decent Desktop Replacement Laptop.

T42p 14" SXGA+ / 2.0GHz / 1.5GB / 60GB / 2 x 6C / XP

T40 14" SXGA+ / 1.7GHz / 1GB / 40GB / 6C / XP

Alfred,

If you would like a review of your TP G41 click on the following link:

Depending on what you plan on using your G41 laptop for, it may have been a good deal for you.

I've had my G41 for about 9 months now & I'm on my third NVidea video card. IBM has been nice enough to replace them no questions asked, but Lord help me when the warranty expires in August. I just recently downloaded a program called "Speed Fan" Ver. 4.28 (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) and am running it on my laptop now. My G41 tends to run hot when I'm plugged into the AC charger, (about 145 degrees Farenheit to 160 degrees), but I think that's because I've got the monitor brightness set to #7 setting, (the highest setting). Attempts to lower the brightness monitor when plugged into AC don't seem to work - laptop keeps going back to the #7 setting even after I lower them. When I'm on battery power the monitor brightness drops down to #3 which in turn helps to lower the laptop temps down to 110 - 120 degrees.

I think the reason why the NVidea video cards keep dying on me is because the internal laptop fan doesn't really cool the inside components down very well. I can hear the fan running very quietly but not like when updating the BIOS...running flat out!! With the "Speed Fan" program I am able to monitor internal temperatures but I haven't figured out how to get the "Speed Fan" program to turn the laptop fan on once temperatures start to rise. About the only time I notice the internal laptop fan kicking in, is when internal temps start to hit 160 degrees Farenheit....but by then, my NVidea card is already nice & toasty!!
I really like the features on my G41 laptop and the conveniences it offers me, but I can't rely on this laptop at all. I'll never know when I'll hear the now familiar long, then two short beeps of video card death telling me that my G41 is on the kaputz again. Hopefully you'll be luckier than me......

If you plan on using your G41 as your primary laptop, then all I suggest is that you keep backups on an external drive somewhere and have a secondary desktop system available for when you need it. I'm not that fortunate but I've been able to manage without my G41 every time it's died on me.

Anyhow, that's just my situation...hope yours is a lot better.

Gs

Based on spec, your G41 seems to be a nice deal, but in the world notebook computers, specs aren't everything. In my opinion, one of the main reasons why I and many others on this Forum buy and use ThinkPads has a lot to do with build quality. And this is the main reason why I avoided the G Series the last time I ordered notebooks in bulk. I found out that IBM had contracted the G Series from Quanta (the Taiwanese company that does the Dell machines). I had unfortunately experienced too many problems in supporting Dells over a few years so purposefully avoided the Gs. I believe, that the problems experienced by other users as detailed above has a lot to do with why IBM dropped the G Series rather quickly. I for one never trusted Dell computers beyond there warranty periods.

All that said, there's going to be variation from unit to unit so you may end up having great luck with your (I for one hope you do) machine. Like I said; IMHO it's a good deal.... based on spec. :)
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I think that its a good deal.

I have used a G series ThinkPad before and I think that they are great ThinkPad's and I didn't have any problems using them (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=13543).
ThinkPads: R51 (1836HAU), T41 (23737FU), 600 (264551U), T60 (2008VRQ), T500 (224255U)

I Love (all) ThinkPads...ThinkPad forever!
