Battery Information utility question

#1 Post by chmely » Sat May 13, 2006 1:34 pm

My A30 battery was about 4 years old when I decided to have it refilled. I notices an asterisk next to the Full Charge Capacity reading under Battery Health. After getting the battery back with the new cells the asterisk was still there, and I never got the laptop to run for more than 20 minutes unplugged running Windows. But in safe mode the refilled battery was good for at lease 3 hours.

My guess is the asterink indicates the microprocesor in the battery pack is shot, but that's a guess since I found no documentation to that effect on the IBM/Lenovo site.

Can anyone verify my hunch?

By the way, the refill vendor refunded my money when I returned the battery to the.

Under Improve Battery Health, choose to Recondition Battery Now..., and that may reset the microprocessor. At least that is what I have heard. I have not tried it myself yet.

chmely,

Same thing here with my A30 -- I had the battery refilled and some of the fields on the status screen have an asterisk. Also, the new capacity shows as only a few Wh, but the actual capacity is clearly at or near the claimed 44Wh. The computer will run over two hours on a charge. It will however go from 100% to 6% on the battery gauge in about 30 minutes, but then run at 6-2% for hours.

I wrote the vendor and got an answer that may have been technically correct but was basically useless. I elected to keep the battery and set the cutoff level at 1% and am getting used to it.
