Bluetooth daughter card in T41 - no workee! Man cries.

#1 Post by HankMcSpank » Sat May 13, 2006 6:04 pm

I bought a Bluetooth II daugher card & fitted it in my T41...after installation, loaded up the drivers. Everything seems hunky dory (in device manager, Fn F5 turns bluetooth on ok) *except* when I search for know nearby bluetooth devices, my T41 never finds them.

What's all this about a bluetooth aerial then?! The daughtercard has no obvious place to connect an aerial in, so I'm figuring that the daughterboard edge connector must already have an aerial? (thedaughterboard pushes onto themain board but also has a small connector on it's edge)

Have I missed something here? Where does the aerial normally connect in on the bluetoth daughtercard?

There is a bluetooth antenna fitted in the display lid of the ThinkPad (on bluetooth models). IMO you do need to connect this to the card for it to work. Also, I've read that bluetooth can be tricky to get working sometimes. I do not have bluetooth, so I can't help much more. See links below for the bluetooth antenna.

i did an install of a bluetooth daughter card and the antenna (mounted on the screen hardware on the left side.) There IS a small circular jack on the daughter card. The antenna just snaps on to it. No idea if it'd work without the antenna all together.. i really doubt reception would be anywhere near as good without it though.

the hardware maintenence manual has all the info you need to take apart your screen and install the antenna.

Ok, thanks for the replies...I've just dismantled my T41 for another look - i can see the tiny socket for the bluetooth antenna on the bluetooth daughercard- unfortunately there's no white antenna wire to plug into it. I guess I'll have to go & order the kit - anyone know the part number? (my daugher card is a IBM part number 91P7319)

Many thanks.

You may also want to replace the clear plates (the indicators on the outside and inside of your lid). They can be ordered, cheap, from IBM/Lenovo.

If you search on this forum there have been recent discussions of all that you need, and how to do it. I'd search on "bluetooth clear plate."

looks like you can still go here:

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... PartNumber

(that might have been a session dependent link, might wanna try this one too:)

enter:

and you can order it new from IBM for $8

A page like this might help

Frankly, I'd be more comfy ordering such small parts from IBM rather than an auctioneer. What's your recourse if you get sent the wrong part by Joe Blow in Deer Wallow, USA?
