14" vs. 15" folllow up satisfaction level

#1 Post by edelrc » Tue Aug 03, 2004 1:40 am

How do you, recent buyers, feel about your T42 purchases?
To answer, jut think that both format laptops have same specs and prices, just the case and screen are different.

(This, hopefully, will give us an idea of the level of expectations met by the different screen sizes on the T series.)

You should put a "still undecided" option. I've had my 14" for over a month but I sometimes desire the Flexview and at other times I'm glad I didn't go with it.

edit: Also, one of the reasons I didn't go with the Flexview was that it put me over the budget. For the identical configuration, I believe the Flexview was ~$600.

Flexview kicks [censored].

Sure it costs more........a lot more I would argue. But I am planning to use this comp for probably 3 years.

The case is solid and isn't big at all...especially when you compare it to the competition.

The display is beautiful. I could stare at it all day. :P

I can't answer...

I own a 14" T41 and a 15" T42P...

I love the 14" format. thin, light, metal.

But I like the display on the T42P so much more, that the extra size is worth it to me. The construction is still top notch.

How about an option of "I love them both"?

When I ordered my T42p through a friend's school, I got the 14.1" and he got the 15" flexview. Quite honestly, I'm blown away by both - and as NE said, both felt solid. I could see some ghosting on the 15" when he was playing UT2k4, but it wasn't enough to really get in the way.

I'm glad I chose the 14" though because I plan on carrying this thing around with me a lot (that, and the expense factor).

Yes, I should had put indecided and 'love them both', but I am afraid that adding lines, will mess up the numbers already there. For other options, I would choose 'Either way would be the same' so that won't pollute with the other most determinant choices.

Looking at the graph, I am tempted to make assumptions, but as a stats professor would say... "the sample size still no significant for determination!"

I love the 14" on my T42. It just looks great and the viewing angle is more than adequate. And the lighter weight is definitely a plus especially when I'm going to lug it around college and up the airplane.

Shied away from the 15" Flexview due to its lower response time. I've used a 15" SXGA+ before on the Inspiron 8100 as well as 12" XGA, so going down to 14" was not a problem.

I prefer pixel performance over size.

I was debating b/w the 14" and 15" as the 14" is smaller and lighter, while the 15" I can get 1600x1200 (important as I do most of my coding on my laptop).

I got the 15" and am very happy w/ it. In thickness it's the exact same thichkness as my old 14" t21. It's obviously wider and longer, but it doesn't feel that much more heavier (even though w/ extended battery it probably has .5lb + on it). I'm used to carrying my 14" t21 around, and in the week I've been using the 15" t42p it hasn't been an issue. If you want to save weight, you can also do what I'm thinking of doing. Get the ultrabay slim battery, and just run w/ that. I'm usually connected to a socket, so not a problem. If you need to carry it to lots of different places, you can many times find an electrical socket to use (be it a classroom or even the airport).

By looking at the numbers I think we can already observe this:
-More than twice of the people here still inclined to get a 14"
-To my surprise, there is not significant resentement about anyone's choices.

Now I am worry about how many of those who voted knows about the other screen model that they have. For instance, I have never seen a 14" T42, so my vote is not the most informed one...
The vote here just represents satisfaction with our decision wether it is informed or not.

I currently have a 15" T42p, previously had a 14" T41p. I like both, but the larger screen is really nice.

Working with both right now. My personal machine is a 15", love the higher resolution at IPS screen (which I've used in an airplane - being visible at extreme vertical angles is SO nice!).

The 14" is also great. After working with both, it feels so much smaller and lighter than the 15" and the increased battery life is noticeable. I really think struck a nice balance between the two, and I would be more than happy using either as my primary machine.

I bought based on size. The specs for the computer with the larger monitor *aren't* the same--it's a larger machine!

OK, now we can take conclusions:

- 3to1 of people has chosen the 14". There are many factors for this difference; 1) The 15"screen is just a new line unknown for most of T series users. 2) Most T-series users here have heard about the Flexview, but actually never see it and 3) Price on similar configuration makes 15" cost hundreds more.
In conclusion, 3-to-1 appears to be just a stat number that reflects chosen preference but that it can NOT compare probability of satisfaction between the two sizes.

-After 47 votes, only 1 person regrets her/his choice! I do find this statistically amazing! (Sorry for the unsatisfied fellow, but you're 'insignificant' :( )

- 8% would have gone either way. (Why do I have the feeling that these people know well both machines?!)

As someone said here before; Choose whatever you intuit fits you best, nevertheless at the end, WHATEVER you had purchased, you won't regret.

I am very happy with the 15" screen. Size of the notebook or weight made no difference to me but being able to put two spreadsheets side-by-side and work on both is a big plus. I have owned the 14" screen and it is also very nice and would have probly gone with it if I had to carry my TP thru the airport everyday.
