Laptop Remote
I was setting up a HP Pavilion dv1000 at work (pos but thats aside the point) and it had a remote control that fit in the express card slot. I was wondering if anyone knew something like that that would work with my Thinkpad T43.
I found this:
http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=14272
But it requires a USB dongle. Anyone know anything that might work with the IR port or something internal?
I found this software to work with a normal tv remote:
http://www.mediatexx.com/
But I dont know the settings for the iRDA port.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Re: Laptop Remote
The above does not seem to work with the IRDA port on a laptop. You need one of the "Receivers" listed on the following page. http://www.mediatexx.com/hardware.htmsparta.rising wrote:I found this software to work with a normal tv remote:

The first remote you listed should work. Here is another one, which I happen to have. It works with many applications, but not all of the buttons are functional. It does control: Volume, Mute, Play, Pause, Fast Forward, Fast Reverse, Skip Forward, Skip Reverse, Stop, 4-way Scrolling and Select. It does include a necessary IR receiver attached to a 4' USB cable. http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/cybersto ... 4_ENU.htmlMediatexx FAQ wrote:Can uICE work with my computer's / laptop's internal IR port?
Can uICE work with IrDA?
Internal IR ports are usually IrDA network interfaces. This technology was not designed to work with handheld remote controls, and most models do not work at all.
Yes, IrDA is an infrared light based technology. But there are physical differences between IrDA infrared light and the light emitted by remote controls (wave length/frequency), and, even more important, remote controls and IrDA use protocols. These protocols are completely incompatible. Most IrDA receivers filter out all incoming signals that do not follow the IrDA protocol specification, so no matter how long you try, your hardware cannot work with remote controls. No, it doesn't make a difference whether it's a built-in, serial port or USB device. Because of all these troubles, uICE cannot and will not support IrDA.
Very (very) few models seem to be able to receive infrared signals from RCs. If you're using Win98, read this. No chance under ME, 2k or XP.
Finally there was a thread on this forum for controlling your PC with a standard remote control. I tried it, and got it to work to a limited degree. I don't really recommend it for much more than controlling a couple of functions. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=19107
