I think I'll wait and see if the newly re-introduced glass-platters used for perpendicular recording media will last better than current 2.5" notebook HDD's (which i think use aluminum).

I suspect glass platters don't last as long (after you get one bad sector, you will get many other bad sectors quickly).

Here're more details:

5K160's data density is: 131Gb/inch2
5K100's data density is: 81 GB/inch2


So if you thought the increased "speed" from changing from 7K60 to 7K100 was fast, wait till you see it ramp up to 7K160's data density.
