Interesting Phone Call
Interesting Phone Call
Just got off the phone with my sister who is enroute home to NJ from NOLA/MSY to EWR after attending a wedding.
They were scheduled to depart at 1430CDT.
They finally departed at 1751CDT!
But, they're not home yet.
They're in RICHMOND, VA!
Seems there's some weather delays at LGA and EWR that have the entire northeast backed up.
They racetracked for a while in a weather hold, but then diverted to RIC to take on a bit of the good old go-juice as they were getting a mite dry.
They've been sitting on the taxiway somewhere while the ground folks pass gas as there's no gate available for them. When they'll depart RIC is apparently anyone's guess. My sister is probably the most popular person on the plane as she's the type of individual who is always prepared for an emergency and she no doubt has a few beignets and Poorboys stashed somewhere on her ample person.
Whoops, I just checked again and as I was typing the above they're off bound for EWR. Hope they make it this time.
Part of the wedding party she's traveling with includes an elderly uncle and aunt from Portugal who are in the midst of enjoying their third airplane ride ever, the first one being the flight last week that brought them to the US. I'm giving odds that they'll be going home by ship!
Let's see, 1530EDT scheduled departure from MSY, now arriving 2330EDT EWR.
Yep, sounds about right for Continental.
Regards,
James

One of the worst flying experiences I ever had was flying from Pittsburgh to Newark on a hot summer afternoon.
Short flight, 50 minutes or so, nice and smooth until we were on final. Then the pilot gets on the intercom:
Newark had a couple hundred planes backed up in the air and running out of gas, we were safely on the ground so we were priority zero.
They couldn't let us get off because there was no gate. They ran out of everything including water. The kept shutting the engines down to save gas, which meant no AC on a hot July afternoon. Once the temperature became unbearable they'd start the engines and run them for 15 minutes or so, then shut them down again. Every so often we'd taxi from one part of the airport to another for some reason. Eventually we had to go to the fuel pits to gas up. People we starting to get really ugly (and smelly) by the time we finally took off for the 15 minute hop to Newark.
Life is like a box of chocolates...

Of course when we landed Philly had no gate for us, so we sat on the ramp. For SIX HOURS."Ladies and gentlemen, I have good news and bad news. The good news is we're cleared to land. The bad news is there's a strong thunderstorm sitting right over Newark Airport so it's closed, we're landing in Philly to wait it out."

Probably the worst air travel experience I have had was a flight headed to Orlando, FL out of SFO. There were only supposed to be two stop-overs, there ended up being about 6 stop-overs. Either a connecting flight got cancelled or delayed by a storm; hence, I ended up boarding and un-boarding many aircraft for almost one day straight into the night and red-eye flights. When I got to Orlando at last, I [censored] near collapsed on the bed. My 701c went through this with me as well.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

LOL; I don't know...It seemed pretty happy in its dedicated IBM case; which, truth be told, was over-padded since the 701c was a tad small for the case. It was pretty crucial to let me finish my papers quickly and efficiently when I was away from school. It was just about the perfect laptop for travel and carrying around.JHEM wrote:That's Thinkpad abuse!christopher_wolf wrote:My 701c went through this with me as well.
The ASPCT will be by within the hour to rescue your 701c.
