Vista on Thinkpad T60(2623D6U)

#1 Post by lenovouser » Tue May 16, 2006 9:16 am

Hello,

I recently purchased the Thinkpad T60 (2623D6U) and added 1 GB of RAM, was wondering if this specification would be Vista compatible.

Any inputs?

Thanks

not sure what you mean by specification (memory or overall thinkpad spec) but friends who have had vista for months say it works just fine..

i think the last email complained of some small incompatibility with firefox..

Definitely Vista compatible, probably also Aero Glass compatible.

It will run on the system, it runs well on my t42, but I have read that the Aero Glass requires 128 mb of video ram so it is not likely to get the full blown effect. I hope it does run on some shipped models when Vista comes out because i am waiting till then to get a t60 or "t" something with Vista.

I installed a beta version of my T60 awhile ago, and I must say that YES, vista works fine on it. Aero glass effects seemed to not be a problem either. I've got a 64 mb X1300. Integrated graphics may have a problem though.

BTY, is there any possibility upgrading x1300 with x1400 or higher card?

not without replacing the entire mainboard.

MS mentiones a 128MB requirement for the GC for running in SXGA, but never mentiones DEDICATED vRAM.

X1300 should be fine ...

I have ordered a Thinkpad with sxga (1440x1050) and the ATI x1300 with 64MB.

But I’m worried about the graphics memory being only 64MB, is it possibly to run Vista Aero with only 64MB at 1440x1050?

MS mentiones a 128MB requirement

I think it was build 8365. I stopped using it because there were so many other annoying bugs not related to the video card. Also, the suspend mode went crazy, but other than that there weren't any other issues.

Aero Glass will need 128 MB of memory, the X1300 has 64MB on-board and will borrow the rest from system memory.

X1300 will run Aero glass in SXGA.

Don't forget, the ATI cards in that vintage have Hypermemory, so even if the built-in RAM is insufficient, you can make up for it with system memory. So yeah, if you have 1GB + an additional 1GB I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems (well, for graphics card, anyway).

vista

#15 Post by johnp126 » Fri May 26, 2006 8:41 am

I have it running on my 270093u. curiously the clock seems to never keep correct time. it works well, only thing it doesn't find is the driver for the finger print reader. haven't tried putting in lenovo drivers. they would probably help with the battery life which goes to only 2hrs in std vista at least on my pc. i have beta 2 just released (MSDN). the frustrating part is not much runs on it as far as 3rd party software, some won't even install. PCA 12 no go, AIM 5.9 no go, sav special release installs but won't auto protect. lotus notes 6.5.5 installed haven't tested it yet. thats always the issue with beta and lots of os changes.
the asking for elevated privs is annoying when you know what you are doing. i can see for some serious issues to ask but to change simple things like deleting an icon from the desktop is way overkill..

Finally I have sold 2623D6U in craigslist for the same cost (Lucky to have EPP discount) was able to order 2623-D8U which now which have opened all the options I guess(Vista+Linux+Mac) if needed.

MODERATOR EDIT: Please do not discuss EPP Pricing, per forum rules.
