T30 Battery drain when off?

#1 Post by Merlyn3D » Tue Aug 03, 2004 1:12 pm

I have a Thinkpad T30 92U and for some reason, when the laptop is off and the battery is in, it'll drain power from the battery. It takes about a day or two to completely drain it, but when it's off for a couple hours, it'll go from 100% to 90%. However, when I take the battery out, it won't drain at all. Has anyone else had this problem?

Wow, off as in shut down, and it loses 10% that quickly?

Do you have another battery to try?

FWIW when I called IBM and documented this problem they offered to send me a new battery, even tho it was out of warranty. Dunno why I declined (stoopid!) but anyway ... I'll know soon of my new system board solved the problem, and will post here.

My system board replacement made no difference whatsoever.

My machine still loses almost 4% of its battery power in a 24 hour period when in hibernation mode.

Going to contact IBM and see what they recommend for a next step. One thing is certain, this behavior is not by design.
