390E Battery will Not Charge

#1 Post by MJanofsky » Tue May 16, 2006 3:43 pm

Hi,
I have a TP 390E with a Brand New Lithium-Ion battery that will not take a charge.

This battery worked with the charge that it had when I first got it, but it will not charge at all.

I am not sure what to do, I'd like to know if I can tell if it is the computer or the battery!

Thanks,
Michael

PS I LOVE my old TP, don't pick on it! 8)
Regards,
Michael

Are you using the Battery Maximizer program?

If you are, is it a Li-Ion or NIMH battery? If it is a NIMH battery, then you can try using this battery reconditioning tool for the 390E.

I did not install the battery maximizer program (to my knowledge...it could have been installed through the updater thing).

It's a Lithium-Ion battery.

I just want to know whether it is the computer or the battery to see if it is worth purchasing another battery.

Thanks,
Mike

The Battery Maximizer doesn't work with 390's.

As for your problem, the best way to know wheter it is the battery or the board would be to try another battery in.

From my experience, it's most probably the battery, especially if you bought an aftermarket chinese one. I had to return a new one for an exchange cuz it couldn't hold a charge (would go from 80% to 0% in 2 minutes) They sent me another one. Ok, it works BUT, the orange LED starts blinking when the level reaches ... 80% lol.

My 2 original IBM batteries work as they should. I think the chip inside the chinese batteries are just weird.

Thanks.

I guess it looks like I should attempt to RMA it...
