Webcam Recommendations for X60 1709-7HU, 1.5GB RAM
Has anyone used a Logitech Webcam in conjunction with their x60? I recently purchased the QuickCam Pro 5000 and installed the webcam drivers only. After my first video call on Skype the sound started to hiccup until it finally degraded into loud static. When I ended the call the ubiquitous BSOD appeared and pointed the finger at a particular logitech driver.
I rebooted and a viscious cycle of BSOD and reboots occurred. So I finally disconnected the USB 2.0 cable and was able to uninstall the drivers and, like magic, no more BSOD/reboots.
I did a little reasearch and noticed other people (mainly on Dell laptops) were having similar problems. The Dell forums suggested that the microphone drivers on the logitech webcam do not play nice with SIS or other integrated sound chipsets. I guess my question is has anyone used a webcam with their x60 that worked well? Or is video-calling on a laptop too much to hope for?

I use the Global Media K2 camera with my X60S. With the latest drivers, it's the only camera that will sustain 30fps at VGA resolution (Many say they support 30fps @ VGA, but this is the only camera I've found that will sustain it with movement).
It's only $99 so it's very reasonable. I use it in conjunction with my Polycom Communicator for Skype and Polycom PVX.

Solution
I apologize for not updating this problem with a solution. I emailed logitech support and they sent back some excellent instructions for clean installing logitech software and disabling the logitech sound drivers for the quickcam. Regrettably the information is on my desktop. When I get a chance, I will post the Logitech Tech Support reply. In the short term, you can email Logitech and they should send a reply within a couple of days.
After following their instructions, I used the quickcam for hour-long Skype video calls with NO problems. So there is hope.

Hello Clay,
Thank you for contacting Logitech Customer Support.
Based on your email I see that you received a Blue Screen after installing the QuickCam.
I would suggest that you try the following steps in order to resolve this issue :
1. Please clean install QuickCam. Please refer to the following article at the link below for the procedure to performa clean installation of QuickCam :
Title: Doing a clean install of camera software
URL: http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi ... 1087603220
2. After performing the clean installation please do the following :
- Please make sure that the camera is unplugged from the USB port
- Restart the computer until everything is loaded
- Go into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\KAudP and rename KAudP folder to something else like KAudP.old
- Restart the computer again and this time plug in the camera into the USB port and this should resolve the issue.
3. If the issue still persist after trying the above suggestions, please provide me with the following details :
a. Which version of Operating System
b. If Windows, which version of Service Pack installed ?
c. System Information log file :
- Click Start > Run
- Type in “msinfo32”, without the quotation mark
- System Information windows comes up
- Click File > Save at the top
- Save it onto the desktop
- Attach and send it back to us
d. Behaviour observed should camera is unplugged from the computer.
Please update this incident, describing the results after following my suggestions. Or, if you prefer, you can contact us directly by the phone numbers listed below.
Sincerely,
