trackpoint moving on its own...
is my trackpoint broken? After i use it to surf the web for a while and when i lift my finger, it moves by itself. Maybe i'm pushing it too hard? I tried light tought and medium tought sensitivity setting but still not working. Any ideas? thanks

LOL, that is just the re-calibration of the Trackpoint via the UltraNav driver software, I haven't heard of the rubber having shape-memory...but that is a clever idea although it wouldn't affect exactly that kind of pointer movement; the trackpoint is a solid state device if I recall correctly and uses something akin to strain gauges to track movement. If there is an increased amount of pressure on it in any direction, example...from resting your finger on it for too long or pressing on the extreme edge of it in one direction for too long, and then the pressure is removed, it will automatically recalibrate the position of the trackpoint sans steady-state force; that, however, moves the pointer on screen a bit as well. This generally lasts for only a few seconds.

I have this 'problem' with both my notebooks, so it is not really an x60 'problem'. Solution is not to press the thinkpoint to hard all the time and take it easy. If you really want it to speed in a direction with the lightest touch, then change the speed settings for it.

Exactly. It is completely normal. It has nothing to do with how you push it or use it. It has nothing to do with the red rubber trackpoint cap.christopher_wolf wrote:that is just the re-calibration of the Trackpoint via the UltraNav driver software,

When it starts to travel on it's own during recalibration, just remove your finger, be patient for a moment or two and it will stop.
While you can use the ultranav wizard to tailor the speed to your preference, it will still auto calibrate from time to time. Perfectly normal.

Just a side note on how to tailor the response of the mouse through the UltraNav Trackpoint drivers, fiddle with both the sensitivity setting *and* the acceleration setting. Don't just max one and tinker with the other. Adjust both and try each setting out and settle on the one that feels the best; else you will just end up moving the sensitivity bar around between two numbers +/-1 each time again and again.

Yes I have experienced the same thing when using the middle scrolling button, but after years of using ThinkPads with the track point I have become accustomed to it.intelbrain wrote:it's just pretty anoying, sometimes when i move it, it wants to go in to opposite direction. This happens a lot when i using the scrolling middle button. I guess i'll stop pushing it so hard.
Regarding how hard you push it...it really makes no difference. As the autocalibrate feature does not react according to how you use the trackpoint. Hope this helps.
