R31 LOGON PROBLEM

#1 Post by billdev » Sun May 21, 2006 1:11 am

I have a Thinkpad R31 which I am having trouble logging on to.

I am running Windows XP and when I attempt to logon a blank screen appears (except for the wallpaper).

When I click on “Turn off Computer” the Stand By, Turn Off and Restart window appears but without the usual icons and I am unable to select any of these options.
.
I have tried disconnecting the battery and AC power without any success.

I’d welcome any suggestions people may have in getting me up and going again.

Hi Bill,

I'm not much of an expert for Win XP, but as you haven't recieved any replies, I'd like to make a suggestion.

You can try booting into Windows' Safe Mode by holding down the F8 key when Windows starts choosing Safe Mode from the boot options that will be displayed.

If this gets you successfuly into safe mode, try disabling any programs that are part of the startup. You may also want to schedule a disk check for your hard disk the next time you boot your notebook.

Please let us know if this helps.

Good luck,
Daniel

I agree with danieldavid, try getting in via Safe Mode and disable anything that isn't necessary. ALSO, try scanning with an AntiVirus, as there could be something else running that is causing problems.
