Z60t - Upgrade CPU?

My Z60t has an Intel Celeron M 360 1.4 GHz. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade to a Pentium M w/the same socket type. Has anyone tried this or have any thoughts?

I've seen Celeron M's in Socket 478 and 479...how can I tell which mine is?

An upgrade to P-M will work, even doing a pin-mod will work as well if you want to save some cash. I had a 360, then did a pinmod on it to bring to 1.86 and then swirched it to P-M 760 for better battery life.

FYI: Changing the cpu will void your warranty.

FYI: The damage the case will almost inevitably sustain in the process of changing out your CPU will not void your warranty, but it will most certainly be bad.

But won't Lenovo notice that the CPU you have and the CPU you're supposed to have are different. I assume (hope) that they run a baseline diagnostic on all machines that come in for repair to make sure they haven't been altered so as to void the warranty.

I took appart my laptop numerous times and dont have any damage on it what so ever, and as long as your careful I dont see how you can cause "inevitable" damage.

Hey smek - What was the socket size when you did your upgrade? 478 or 479. Curious minds want to know.

My Z60T has a dothan 1.7ghz and with the pinmod it's running at 2.26ghz

Yes, you can upgrade the cpu and no damage can be done to your lappy if you follow the HMM instructions.

I understand that website was not for a Thinkpad but it involved the same CPU as my Thinkpad so I found it worked perfect for me as a guide. My 1.4 GHz 400 FBS Celeron has been running at 1.86 GHz by changing the FBS to 533 with the pin mod with no problems for over a year now. The laptop stays on almost always and gets shut off only to travel to work and back. Other than that, it is on and running, getting utilized quite a bit and has performed flawlessly.

I have a Pentium M (Socket 479 mPGA) Banias. I am wondering if I can just solder the corresponding bottom two places. Only thing is, my CPU is soldered onto the motherboard, and it isn't likely that CPU joins go all the way through, meaning I'd have to drill holes. Yikes.

Nop, it won't work but there is always someone finding ways to do it.
