T21 Port Replicator

#1 Post by iann070 » Sun May 21, 2006 9:30 pm

I was thinking of getting a port replicator for my T21 and was wondering if all the ports on the T21 become disabled when connected to the port replicator.
For example, as the T21 only has one USB port and the port replicator also has one USB port, can I use both USB ports, or does the USB port on the T21 become disabled?

My port replicator blocks the back of my T21, so using both USB ports would be difficult, but YMMV.

Port Replicator

You might consider getting a full dock instead. Although they're a bit more hassle and take up more space, you can really do a lot with them. There is a PCI slot as well as 2 PCMCIA slots as well. And since it has it's own power supply, you don't have to plug and unplug that every time you head off somewhere. I use a PCMCIA USB 2.0/Firewire card in mine so I can get much faster data transfers to my T23.

On top of which, the docks are very cheap on ebay right now.
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I just got hold of a port replicator, and yes, it does block all the ports on the T21, so I guess USB hub is in order.

Thanks for the replies.

The dock I just got, also has an Ultrabay in it. I can now run 2 optical drives at the same time, or with the ultrabay HDD adapters, 2 or 3 HDDs.

The port replicator or docking station do not block the PCMCIA slots, so you can run up to 4 PC cards, if you want.
