R40 noise

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Mon May 22, 2006 1:09 pm

i hope i didnt buy a lemon..

this applies from a fresh reboot or resuming from hibernation-

there is a noise coming from the underside, i guess its a frequency noise. the fan on the bottom isnt spinning, nor is the exhaust fan...do you think something could be on its way out??

Is it coming from the LCD area? (ie. the inverter)

no, i believe ive got two funky noises- i do have the one pinned down (or so i think) to the inverter, but i just noticed this one underneath after placing it on a cool pad (very cool!)...

i put my ear up around the area of the intake fan, and thats where i belive to have heard the noise.

welcome to the thinkpad club. i have no idea why otherwise good notebooks always have this defect. all the thinkpads I have ever had (4) have made some sort of noise. my brandnew r52 even. maybe ibm engineers are generally deaf. that would also explain the fan settings.

alrighty- for the time being ill take it as a slight annoyance, and not a major expense.

thanks.
