I've always used wireless right out of the box, always ignoring that "IBM Access Connections" thing that popped up. Life was good; I'd automatically connect to the wireless networks at home and work, and if I plugged in my network cable, it would automatically switch to the faster option. Yes, things were just peachy...
Yesterday, for some stupid reason, I clicked on the system tray icon and brought up a "Wireless Connection Status" dialog box. I clicked on the "Find WLAN..." button and used that to select a network at a client site. Well, it reconfigured something, and while I could get on the client's network, I could no longer connect to the network at the office or home without following the same procedure. Eventually I discovered that I had to go into the "Wireless Network Connection Properties" dialog and choose "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" and things seemed fine. However...
It no longer automatically switches me to the fastest connection. It always prefers wireless, even when I plug in. This is frustrating, as now I have to remember to turn off my wireless card to get it to switch to the LAN card if I need to transfer a big file.
What am I doing wrong, and how to I fix it? Help is appreciated!

Whatever you do (if you want to use IBM Access Connections) do not tick the box 'Use Windows configure my wireless network settings and generally bugger up my computer'
(You'll find this in the connection properties box under 'Wireless Networks')
IBM Access Connections can/will handle pretty much any number of network connections - for instance I use three networks.
1 - home wireless
2 - work wireless
3 - work wired
I just let it get on with it (after having, obviously, created three access profiles) and it get's it right every time. Just start Access Connections and create a profile, after having made sure you un-tick the box I mentioned in the first para - good luck
