Symantec do I need anything else?
Symantec do I need anything else?
I have Symantec from my school, but I wanted to know if I need anything else for spyware? Or am I protected, I just downloaded webroot, and it said that it found some spy cookies. Do I have to worry about the spy cookies?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Get rid of the "worst" cookies if you can; the cookies themselves only act as markers so the site that placed them can count you each time you go back and hit their pages.
Either keep webroot and Symantec; or, if you want to get some performance increases, turn off the Windows Firewall, install Kerio, install AVG, then install Spybot Search&Destroy (excellent at killing off spyware and cookies). I did that because I found that the version of Norton I had on my system got incredibly bloated, once I replaced it with AVG...performance increased.
Although there are different versions, if the version of Symantec you have is related to the corporate version; then it is a tad slimmer and doesn't use so many resources.

I have the corporate version I believe.
But now My wireless is all messed up, I have two ThinkVantage programs on the bottom right toolbar, one that has the green wireless bar meter, the other is a computer and when I click on that I can select which network to connect to. Well the Green wireless bar one thinks that my wireless radio is turned off.
Help please.

I second that, Symantec uses too much system resources.
Personally, I use f-prot (www.f-prot.com), which I'm very happy with (good price, good performance, low on resource consumption).

I highly recommend NOD32, it uses very little resources but blocks everything I've ever thrown at it - I stopped using Symantec when some guys on another forum posted links to WMF exploit images and Symantec did nothing to stop them from loading. NOD32 was one of the few AVs that prevented the pics from loading. That, and it uses far less resources.

Firefox stops the images (most of them) but to test your AV, try to right-click the images and save them. NOD32 blocks them all and doesn't allow any of them (including the zip) to be downloaded.tempnexus@rage3d wrote:THEY ARE ALL NON MALICIOUS PAYLOADS. BUT THEY ARE ALL PAYLOADS!!! Protecting Your Computer
I second the notion to use spybot search and destroy. Another program I can recomend is Ad-Aware SE. I believe the wesite is:
www.lavasoft.com. It works well in conjunction with spybot.
Hope you find this information of some use!

Besides taking up too much system resources Norton gave me weird problems. For example with the default install on my T43 I was unable to browse through my CD drive, uninstalling Norton fixed it. I dont run a antivirus myself (just avoid dling unknown exes) but I would recommend Antivir or Avast. Also Kerio 2.1.5, Spyware Blaster is a must and if you arent using it already Firefox. Most of those apps have a small footprint and doesnt slow down performance.
Norton is Bad.
No sirve!
On my previous thinkpad a T23 after downloading something i scan the file and norton said it was clean guess what i end up doing a clean install because the computer was so infected by that file when i opened that after a reboot it never boot up again.
Bad useless worthless---->>>Norton.

The Retail version of Norton Antivirus was/is especially weak on trojan horse detection.
A few years ago I was very disappointed when my Norton AV said my computer was clean, but upon scanning by Housecall/TrendMicro it detected a trojan horse on my system, from a shareware program (hence so many attacks on my FireWall).
Just a few days ago, my AVAST antivirus (www.avast.com) detected a shareware program that tried to install a trojan horse, dialer program, and adware program during installation.
Just use my Rescue & Recover image made to make things back to normal in 10 minutes
Just one more interesting link on what else you need:
