New 570 owner - any quirks I should know ?

#1 Post by kstuart » Mon May 22, 2006 9:17 pm

Hello,

I just purchased a 570 to use on trips with a WiFi card to check e-mail and the web, and to be able to do some word processing out of doors occasionally.

So, I was wondering if there was any helpful advice on this particular model (or series) before I set it up and start to use it ?

I'm a software engineer (in fact, I did contract work for IBM for a year) and have used PCs for 25 years, but I have no experience with laptops (or wireless) - this being my first one, amazing as that may seem ! :)

(I'm hoping to have WEP and WPA figured out by the time the 570 has arrived in the mail - my router already has an unused WiFi access point.)

Thanks !

ken..

should have no quirkiness with that 570..
it was a wonderful thinkpad..
i hope that you got the base with it as well..

the 570 is based on the 600E and was a very successful model..

I did not get the base, but the price was quite low and I was looking for something small and light, so I would probably not want or need a base - but I could probably find one on ebay if I change my mind.

Meanwhile, I'm finding lots of information just searching (although it always annoys me that phpBB is the only BB that refuses to give a "search only topic titles" option in the Search function).

Did you use USB Wifi instead of a PC card Wifi because your PC card slots were already all in use ?

Aha - that gives you a real antenna ! I had not considered that factor.
