Hi, if I want to upgrade a Thinkpad A31p to XP Pro from windows 2000 (which came with it) how can I retain the recovery partition (or CD) functionality to restore an XP image and not Windows 2000?
is there some way of building a recovery CD or partition?
(I don't have this option in the "access ibm" menu)
thanks

recovery
Hello,
it is rather simple:
(1) Backup Your Windows2000 Recovery partition using a backup-Software e.g. drive Image, acronis
(2) Write it to CD
(3) use a backup-file to wirte a XP-Recovery partition backup to your recovery partition
(4) start a recovery from F11,
(5) Do all the updating/upgrading/installing work to be done for a working machine
You can partition C: to become several logical partitions, so c: will be separated from those partition s containing software other than system and from Data. Any crash (except: physical damage to hdd) should let you still save data and parts of Your installation
