Questions on thinkpad protection?

#1 Post by renhui » Wed May 24, 2006 12:01 pm

Hi there, I am interested in buying thinkpad protection for my new thinkpad and got several questions here:
1) can I buy the TPP after I got my computer, the computer is still less than one month old though.
2) Is the TPP worldwide? I will be travelling a lot, so if it's specific to the country I bought it from, it'll become sorta useless
3) Does TPP really cover everything like dell's completecare?

Also, for you guys who got TPP, do you think it's really worth it?

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.
Are you sure that TPP can be purchased after you got the machine?? I am asking 'cause I called Lenovo this evening and was told TPP can only be purchased before the unit is shipped.

1)TPP can be purchased AFTER the unit, IF it is within the 30 DAY WINDOW, you will be SOL after the 30 days in the USA-Canada, I do not know!
2) NO- TPP only covers the unit while in the USA-If purchased here-
3) Yes, BUT it WILL NOT cover the ThinkPad if it is STOLEN, left out in the RAIN or YOU caused damaged "on-purpose"

FWIW:

For the "regular" warranty, the ThinkPad will be covered world wide, IF the ThinkPad will find a PERMANENT residence OUTSIDE of the USA, IBM/Lenovo recommends you "register" the "new address" with the original country of purchase!

What does mean reistering the new address for Thinkpad once staying in other country then of purchase on permanent basis ?
I just acquiring a brand new T43, bought in US but is being shipping right now to me to Israel and will be used locally in my country.
It carries regular 3 years internaitonal warranty good for my country. Does that mean I will need to register it in Israel to be eligible for warranty service ? What is that registration procedure ? Could you please provide a linnk to Lenovo page elaborating this issue ?

Thanks, Alex

yes how can the tell if it is an accident? do you now have to "make sure" it is an accident? I mean, do you now have to call with panic or anxiety in your voice so they know it was an accident?

Thanks for the replys.
A quick update: I contacted Lenovo again and they still wouldn't sell me the thinkplus protection warranty even though my unit is still less than 30 days old. I know I have the option of ordering a new unit together with TPP and returning the old one. but I do need my thinkpad. I asked for any official link or documents as to that TPP can't be purchased after the unit is shipped but they didn't give me any.
If anyone can give me a link or something that TPP CAN be purchased after the unit is shipped, I will greatly appreciate that.

P.S. no, I didn't damage my thinkpad and tried to get TPP to cover it, I didn't know the existence of TPP before I got my unit and now I am more than willing to spend 150US to protect a 2500US purchase for three years.
