IBM service?

#1 Post by teknerd122 » Thu Aug 05, 2004 1:23 am

How is IBM's service? I've read, in some places, that IBM's service is REALLY starting to suck. True? Untrue? I just called their sales department several times earlier today and waited on the phone for half an hour, each time, before I gave up (I needed to order over the phone to ensure that I got the right discount/configuration). If this is any indication of how they treat customers...good lord! I'm about 2 seconds from going back to Apple or, perhaps, getting a Compal! Does anyone have an opinion on IBM service? Clearly, I'm not about to play phone games when it comes to getting my computer service. (please don't bash Apple support in a reply...if you go into an Apple store they HAVE to deal with you on the spot...it's pretty convenient)

Well to be honest with you, they actually try to diagnose your problem instead of hearing the word internet and just dictating "how to repair a _____ for dummies."

I can count the number of times I have called IBM support, and it has been not more than 6 including the call for purchasing, and follow up; and in all of those calls I received only one unhelpful and totally, *argg* makes me mad to think about it, rude support specialist who actually hung up on me! His name was Rudy, and was based in Atlanta. I was going to call the following morning to file a complaint with a supervisor; however, my mothers words from when I was a child echoed in my head as I tried to sleep that night, "perhaps they were having a bad day...maybe you said something...etc..."

All in all IBM service is good, yes the hold times for Sales has increased, but all your (or my post sale issues) haven't been bad except for the one incident. I'll tell you one thing though IBM Support is far superior than that of HP, Compaq, and Toshiba as I have delt with them in the past quite a bit.

thanks, i was worried for a second. When dropping this kind of money on a product, I want to make sure that the whole package (including support/warranty) is flawless.

NOTHING is flawless..

not ibm products or fedex delivery service..
BUT, in both cases there is a dedication to service "about" most of the ibm'ers and fedex'ers unlike the onui (bordom and uncaring attitude) of ups and some other computer makers..

at ibm, they most all of them try harder..
are friendlier..
