My R40 (2681-HSG) is completely dead. With AC power connected no leds light up. No sound ... just nothing.. With or without battery and AC power connected it won't start.....
I checked it and saw that the button that checks that the case is open was gone. (When you lift the TFT is detects it's open and is used for the cover-open switch.)
I opened the cover and saw a piece of metal lying on the mainboard and gave a short circuit on Q5 (which says it's a 4816 thats a 8 pins SMD component)
A piece of the Q5 (4816) is blown away and I need to replace this SMD part.
I checked the Internet for such a part, but I can't find it. When I will replace this part I think it will work again.
Can someone help me with this part or does anybody has a defective R40 mainboard for me, so I can replace Q5.
Hopefully someone can help me.
Kind regards,

Ok...how did this just get blown apart sudden?
I don't see any way of this happening.
externally & internally, the laptop is damaged....
are you trying to fix an already dead laptop or something?

Blown part
Well, there is a metal piece used for the cover switch. When the cover is closed this piece of metal is pushing the switch on the mainboard. I saw a hole in the cover and the piece of metal was lying on the mainboard. It made a contact on the mainboard. When I looked at the circuit I saw Q5 (4816) blown up. (There is a piece of this part missing and can see the inside of this smd part)
Well, yesterday I removed the part and has a shortage between 2 pins that other 4816's on the board don't have. Maybe it will work after replacement?
Do you know there is a schematic available of the board. How expensive are replacement boards?
Kind regards,
Huub de Groot
(I will leave the cover switch out after repair
