Now BIOS for T43/P,up to 1.27!!!

#1 Post by monkey243 » Thu May 25, 2006 3:27 am

The last version 1.25 BIOS was gone from the web for few days, and it is gone now.But lenovo put version 1.27 BIOS on the web today.I have upgraded to 1.27,everything seems fine.
This is the link to the now Non-Diskette BIOS update programe:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59096

You can read the original description about BIOS 1.27 belowe:
<1.27 (1YET62WW)>
Note:
This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program
Version 1.03 (or higher).

- (Fix) With BIOS 1YET60WW or 1YET61WW, an unused PCI device appears
on PCI configuration space Bus=0x0B, Device=0x00, Function=0x01.
Due to this, driver install wizard will run on Windows
2000, after upgrading the BIOS.
As a result of this, the Device Manager will have an item,
SD card host controller.(2000 and XP)
- (Fix) With BIOS 1YET60WW or 1YET61WW, a "Radio Off" function for
internal wireless network device does not run.
The selection item "Raido Off" does not appear in BIOS Setup
menu Config -> Network -> Internal Wireless Device.

Was hoping for a fan noise/thermal fix.

Do the T43s have such an issue? ;) I doubt IBM/Lenovo thinks so...

And a 2010 fix would have been nice (more than possible for them to offer).

I did however update... and no ill effects thus far.

Has anyone done the update to 1.27 with hardware controller v1.05?

I did the last update to 1.25 & 1.05 the day it was released from IBM and then they pulled both. Just wondering if I should downgrade the hardware controller to v1.04 before flashing from 1.25 to 1.27?

I assume by h/w controller you mean the Embedded Controller of which I have 1.05 installed -got it, like you, the one day it was posted with BIOS 1.25.

I did the 1.27 BIOS update this morning (about 8 hours ago) with no problems during update or afterwards. (Have not noticed any difference.)

Yep, I meant the Embedded Controller. Couldn't think of what it was called when I posted.

Glad the update went well for you. I'm waiting on my battery to reach 100% before I give it a try (v1.27 & keeping EC v1.05).

My T43 has been a little flakey since the 1.25/1.05 update. Mainly a couple weeks ago before wiping the HDD the DVI monitor would just randomly turn off (eg power save) and never would come back on. It went away, so I figure it was a driver/hardware conflict, but still kinda frustrating while it was occuring.

My update from v1.25 to v1.27 seems to have been successful.

Once again though, I was unable to update the system using the .exe file. I had to download the disk image and use that with a floppy for the bios update. I had to do that with v1.25 as well.

I probably had to use the floppy since I blew out IBM's pre-boot partition and reclaimed that extra space. Oh well, not too inconvienent, but this is the ONLY reason I've needed a USB floppy drive for in the last 3+ years.

Same problem here; I had to look it up to find the name, which is why I wrote 'assuming.'

Checking the title produced an interesting result:

Using Software Installer v3.60.0608,' View driver and application infomation' includes both BIOS and embedded version info. Following the 'Install or upgrade driver(s) or software' route does not include the above in the s/w versions list. I have not checked yet to see what else is omitted or present, but usually I follow the 'install' route to check versions. (-and, in the case above, have to think where to find the BIOS and Embedded versions without re-booting.)

External keyboards

#13 Post by Paby » Fri Jun 02, 2006 9:04 am

They did pull Embedded Controller Software 1.05 back because of bugs in the new NumLk behaviour with external PS/2 keyboards. If you have problems with external keyboards use BIOS 1.27 and Embedded Controller Software 1.04 and they'll go away. The problem though is that the new NumLk behaviour also goes away so you'll have to switch NumLk manually each time you switch between internal and external keyboard. I really hope they release a new bug-free Embedded Controller Software very soon with the new NumLk option re-added and working. :x

From the Release Notes of 1.27:
---
Previously released BIOS version 1YET60WW, 1YET61WW and Embedded Controller 1.05(1YHT28WW) combination may cause a spontaneous wrong key input when you key input with an external PS/2 type keyboard.

Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8 ) will be inserted internittently during cursor move with cursor keys.
A keyboard behaves as if shift key depressed until a shift key is pressed.
You can only type only Uppercase characters. (Some keys seem to keystrokes, because the shift cases are not defined)
Multiple selection with cursor keys
Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys

If you encounter these cases, please update with BIOS 1YET62WW and Embedded Controller 1.04 or 1.03.
