1st Memory Slot DEAD

#1 Post by DJMic » Thu May 25, 2006 6:08 pm

I have 2 T30 Laptops one has a shot IDE controller and 1 has a dead memory slot... and 1 has a dead memory slot... can I take or remove the chip or part for the dead memory slot off the working board with the faulty IDE controller to make 1 complete working T30 laptop?
I have the tools and equipment to remove smt chips if I only knew what part it was that is faulty.

Thanks any input or advise would be appreciated.

well, the IDE controller is on the chipset, so thats a no go. If you feel safe taking a sodimm connctor off and soldering it back on, you could try it... but IBM has been repairing that issue even on machines that arent under warranty.

IBM had stopped making those repairs, as of the end of March. There are several forum members that have since been declined...more specifically, one member was told to tell their "forum buddies" that theirs was the LAST ONE.
