Want recommendations on folder lock applet
Want recommendations on folder lock applet
I'd like to be able to password protect a folder on my T23 running XP Pro. I'd like to be able to lock and unlock the folder and all the files in it easily (i.e., when unlocked, the folder and all files would be accessible as with any folder, when locked, you'd get an access denied box) -- which means I don't want to use XP's user-based protection which would require me to log in as a different user to access (or for that matter, which would allow someone with admin rights to defeat the protection).
Anyone have any favorites.

Well, this may be overkill, but you could use TrueCrypt for that;

Not quite what you may be looking for, but if you add a folder or files to a .ZIP file with password protection, then Windows will prompt for the password to open the files.
I don't know how to add files to a zip folder (with password encryption) using only the Windows component as I have WinZip. Perhaps someone else...?

Just to note; there are a few easy to use utilities out there that can break the password to a *.ZIP archive. Either via brute force dictionary or cracking the light encryption it uses on top of the archive.

Then perhaps the answer is using the SafeDisk component of Client Security Solution. I creates an encrypted drive that can be mounted or unmounted manually. It's not a folder ... but can be small as a folder.
I'm currently playing with it on my TP, and it's ... effortless. Once in a rare while, CSS can't mount the disk on login (and I think that can be disabled to comply with the OP's request).
