How good is your battery?

You need a running battery to get it to run at rated speed. (SpeedStep slows it down, without a battery, or with a dead battery.)

This feature is called "Speedstep".

If you are on ac power, the presence or condition of a battery does not matter.

XP underreports the CPU speed on T22s, I expect it is the same on T21s.

Search my posts in the forum for a like to download the MobileMeter applet, which will show your true CPU speed (and temps)

Just one point.

Yes, it does. T2x require a battery to run at the higher clock even when it is AC powered.

Orevin, the status of the battery DOES matter! You need to have a GOOD battery installed, even if you are running on AC power!

Well, then my T22 must be broken  . Speedstep works like it should, with good/dead/no battery, I just cheked it.

I just checked a T21, T22, and a T23.

The T23 would run at rated speed without a battery, but the rest wouldn't.

Of course, this was on W2000. YMMV.
