Yeah I'd be great if some peeps with the T60 could test their battery life before and after the fix.

And a quicklink for the info on the bug:

No change. :(

Of course, this fixes just one of three bugs that they report.

Update -- since installing this patch I've experienced a serious problem. I don't know for sure that this patch was the cause (I install packages on this computer at an astounding rate) but it seemed to conincide and initial indications are that the problem has gone away now that I reversed the patch (by hand).

Symptom: I go to use my laptop after closing the lid (should have put it in standby) only to find that it is very hot because it wasn't asleep. Moreover, it has rebooted and presented me with a login screen. Worse yet, the screen res has been reset from 1400x1050 to 1280x1024.

Again, this could have been a unique set of circumstances on my machine and I've only been testing it for a couple of hours since reversing the patch so I can't swear that it's fixed or that the USB patch caused the original problem, but caveat emptor.

If anyone else has experienced this, please chime in.

Darren, I have installed the patch on my -63U and have NOT noticed this. Hope that helps.

Glad to hear it. I hope that it was an isolated case. I should add that I had already applied other hotfixes related to Core Duo power management, so there might have been a conflict.

I also installed the patch and a) have had no problems with the OS or any other aspect ... b) I did measure my battary before and after not a great change ... 3.15 before ... 3.25 after ...

however, this is not very scientific ... with a full charge in both cases I just unpluged and looked at how much time I had ... working only on the 6 cell .... the difference could be accounted for by a better charge and have little or nothing to do with the patch ...
