Switching from T42 to T43
Switching from T42 to T43
I have a new T43, and I don't want to reinstall everything & transfer the exisiting T42 mail, application & other stuff. I hv try ghost the T42 HD to the T43 HD, but the T43 stops on the welcome screen, before the login screen.
What can I do? another other better approach to this?
many thanks
Joe

FYI, by bro-in-law, has a T41p and a T43, he wanted to use the T43 briefly, so he just swapped the drives. The T43 worked fine with all his programs, etc. after redecting a few things. No elegant, but it worked.
For a permanent swap, just run the Lenovo software updater.
He was also able to put the same drive back in his T41p, and it works fine.
Again, not elegant, but easy.

Re: Switching from T42 to T43
Physically remove the drive from the T42 and put it in the T43 and see if it boots OKalpha7 wrote:What can I do?
If it does, forget Ghost and get Acronis True Image 9, then make a clone of the T42 disk image onto the T43 disk using True Image.another other better approach to this?
Cheers

YES! Cloning drives and such work for like models, but in your case your OS installtion will be configured for a T42, and some drivers and such might not with the T43. Hence that loadtime halt. I'd recover your T43 back to the factory-shipped image, then boot up again. Run Software Installer to update all drivers. Then....alpha7 wrote:I have a new T43, and I don't want to reinstall everything & transfer the exisiting T42 mail, application & other stuff. The smoothest way, imho, is to download the IBM System Migration Assistant, and transfer your user profile and documents to the new system. I've used it, from a non-TP to a TP and it worked remarkably well. Took less than an hour. I recommend it.
You will, alas, have to install apps and configure settings. But your new TP will probably run smoother due to far less cruft and registry bloat carried over from your old TP.
