X20 Series -SO many little problems

#1 Post by Red_October_7000 » Sat May 27, 2006 1:01 am

Help with any would be appreciated:
Here you go:
The lid/screen is floppy. I've tightened the internal and external screws but it's still a little floppy.
I've just upgraded to Windows2000 to resolve random hard crash issues; I was able to restore all my drivers plus some more it never had; but I can't seem to find the little program that makes it relate to the ultrabase. I can put it on and off when the system is off and I *think* when it's asleep, but putting it on when the system is on doesn't do anything, and reseating the drive in it makes the system lock HARD again (as in mouse doesn't even work, have to turn it off).
Comming up from sleeping makes the computer sometimes not want to use the internet; Maxthon browser (it uses the IE engine) hangs at "Detecting Proxy settings" and doesn't do anything from there. It can be closed without incident and restarted for the same thing... Reseating the wireless adaptor doesn't do any good. I have the propper drivers for W2K on it now. Did the upgrade screw the system? (I THINK it's been upgraded before since I got it with ME on it and the sticker on the bottom says 98SE.)
It's a 2662 11U if that helps.
Lastly, the little sticker on the palm rest that says "Designed For MIcrosoft Windows..." keeps sliding around leaving sticky goop all over the palm rest and consequently my palms. Can I make it sit still?

Not sure about the software related problems, but as for the hinges, you could always try replacing them. Lenovo has them for $25, part number 04p3168.

Edit: You can also try removing the sticker, to avoid the goo from spreading around.

Thanks for the hinges idea.. but the sticker; it is the only thing protecting me from the goop, it came off last night and I got a handful of goop... Is ther some way to "Stabilize" the goop?

For starters use Goo Gone to remove the glue and make sure you have the latest bios installed for the software problems.

tselling: Are you sure about using Goo-Gone on the X20, since it has the rubberized bezel? I haven't tried it before...it might work just fine. I am just a little apprehensive because of the rubberized coating.

Worst comes to worst you could always try bouncing the sticker, or some strong tape, over the goo to get the majority of it off, heat the rest with a blow dryer, repeat. Then use some light alcohol or olive oil rubbed on it to get the residue off.

If this is Goo Gone, I would hesitate before using it on the polymerized portion of the palmrest. Try out a hidden area first with a proportional amount of it first and see what happens after you start rubbing it.
