where did the borders go?

#1 Post by corleone » Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:25 am

this may be more of a windows question.... I have noticed that with my new T42 certain websites look alot different... they seem to be missing the borders that they had on my old machine? any thoughts on this are a great help...

thanks,
C.

Everything is alot smaller and only takes up like half the screen... i hit Fn SPACEBAR and everything got almsost obnoxiously larger.... is there a happy (crisper) medium?

Borders... as in the lines around certain boxes on test on web sites....

A: What resolution do you have it set to?
B: 16 or 32 bit color?

Fn SPACEBAR activates the magnifying glass so it would naturally get larger...

By the way, what's your screen size? I've got a T42 with 15" Flexview (SXGA)- native resolution 1400 x 1050 and everything is extremely sharp - no unsightly 'thick' borders (this also depends on which sites one visits of course) and 32 bit colour - close to perfect for me.

I second ian. Try switching over to 32bit color -- it seemed to help me (maybe its all in my head, I don't know). My Flexview looks razor sharp at 1400x1050 and 32bit.

I have to say I find a nice 12 year old Talisker is FAR better for colours in my head - but 32 bit was perfectly adequate for my Thinkpad...

corleone, are you referring to sites that have a fixed width?
Some sites have a fixed width, usually setup to look best at a certain resolution. They will sometimes optimize for a display width of either 1024 or 800 pixels.
If they have the site optimized for a display of 1024, and you view it on a display that is 1400 pixels, you will have an extra 376 pixels if you maximize the window. You would then have 376 pixels of border (total) on either side of the page.

You can change your display properties and use 1024, but because of the properties of an LCD display, the native resolution will always look the best. For example, 1024x768 looks like crap on a 1400x1050 SXGA. :?

I'm not sure if this is what you are experiencing though. Especially since these forums dont use a fixed width, and you mentioned that this site looks different too.
ESPN Fantasy Baseball uses a fixed width, though. With the window maximized, it only takes up 60% of the width of my screen(SXGA), is aligned left, and has just background color for the rest of the screen.
