Cannot see Drive C:

#1 Post by markg2 » Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:53 am

If I boot from DOS, drive A does not see the hard drive, yielding 'invalid drive etc.'

If I boot from the Drive Image CD, Drive Image does not see C: (which is the reason for this post -- an image is useless if the computer can't see the drive).

I've not run into this sort of thing before. Anyone have an idea? Btw, I searched IBM's site for the hard drive driver, and finding drivers for every other imaginable device, found none for hard drives.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Mark,
So does the machine post and boot to an os?
If not, the drive is probably dead.
If it's a TP and under warranty, just call IBM of course.
If it was a desktop, I'd say check your connections and maybe try
another cable.
With a laptop I'd at least remove and reinstall the drive.
You might try another utility like Partition Magic 8, if you have
another machine to make boot disks.

The computer works normally and as expected within Windows 2000. It's just booting to DOS.

Neither DOS nor older versions of DriveImage can read an NTFS formatted HD, ergo they report no HD present.

Download and create a IBM/Hitachi Disk Fitness Test floppy. Boot off of it and see if DFT can see the hard drive. If not, dead drive.

Kevin,

Turns out it was the drive and I just received the new one. However, for later reference, would I search on 'hitachi disk' on the IBM support site?
