Battery Problems
Battery Problems
I just recevied my Thinkpad T60, and from the get go my battery would not charge. It came with about a 34% charge, but no matter how long I left it plugged in the charge never went up.
I let the battery drain to 0%, and now it does not charge and the computer freezes whenever the battery is inserted. Has anyone else had this problem? Is my battery shot, or is there something wrong with the computer itself? The computer seems to work perfectly as long as the battery is not attached.
I have an electronic service call in at IBM, so hopefully I will get an answer from them soon.

WTF
I finally received my replacement battery today. The new one is not charging either, it is doing exactly what the old one did. The battery just sits at a 17% charge. I let it charge for 5 hours with the computer shut off and still it is at 17%.
What are the chances that two batteries are bad? Has anyone had a problem like this, or am I the only cursed one.

Unplug the AC adapater, wait a few seconds, and plug back in. Does the little battery icon LED turn orange? When you look at the battery info what does it list for current and voltage? Then unplug the AC adapter and check the current and voltage againNaBachman wrote:It shows information for everything except the charge completion time and the wattage. It even has the nerve to tell me my battery is in good condition and the 90W ac adapter is attached.

My battery, when plugged in with the AC adapter, would read 0%, indicate that it is charging, and when I looked at the details, it would say that the battery is fine.
It would not charge though, and after a few hours the battery indicator in the notification tray would have a big "X" through it. It would say "battery error detected" (all this is a bit off because I'm translating from the Japanese, so I don't know exactly what it says in English) and not have any further details.
Yanking the AC adapter cord would totally kill the system, so there was no juice. Sometimes if I took the battery out and put it in again, it would think it was fine for a few hours, maybe even charge up a bit, but would eventually go back to the "X" battery indicator and no juice.
Lenovo took it back in and replaced the battery under warranty. Everything seems fine right now.

If anything else goes wrong you can send the whole machine back for a replacement NQA. I'd run it hard and make sure it's OK before that period is up.
My first T42 had to be returned about 9 days after I got it, they sent me another, however, they did charge the credit card again and refunded me when they recieved the first machine. If you choose not to be charged again send in the machine and they'll send out another when they recieve it.

Glad to hear your up and running again. Quick turnaround times are something that IBM does well. Another reason I have stayed loyal to the line, as I have not had that experience with other laptop brands.NaBachman wrote:IBM fixed me up. I sent the laptop in and got it back in a couple days. Both batteries now charge and I am finally happy with my t60.
