If you blew away the hidden partition, then the BIOS flash isn't going to be automatic. You will have to download it one a diskette and run it like that; as far as I know, that is normal if you don't have the Predesktop area intact.
For the wireless problem, un-install the wireless drivers, reboot, and that should fix it. Search some threads here and you will find what other things people have done against such a problem.

You don't need a diskette to do a BIOS flash.
All the thinkpads I've had have had the recovery partition removed immediately....and I've always been able to do the self-extracting flash

That doesn't always work for some reason; sometimes you have to use a diskette, sometimes you don't. I don't know what the cause is but I have seen such problems before.mybellyisempty wrote:You don't need a diskette to do a BIOS flash.

2 i did unstalled the access connection., and the key display feature( including onscreen display, the web nav. and the other one, forgot the name.)
and i tried to installed the wireless driver from ibm ( the latest one) and it work now, but how could i turn the fn+f5 on?
i knew it works, the point, i think, is the fn+f5(ibm access connection) doest work with the wireless driver( intel 2200 b/g card).
still need help. .....i tried to search the topic, and did not find any solution yet.
as to say this issue, my best guess is the bios update program need to modify the booting order among ( hidden os-- the crap thing, the xp, and the pure dos where the bios data is located.)christopher_wolf wrote:That doesn't always work for some reason; sometimes you have to use a diskette, sometimes you don't. i tried to uncompress the bios updata program, and found it has a fews that we might familair with . such as *.img, boot, exe kinds of thinkg, i am trying to directy run them with some paremeters(? i do not know how to spell this word, i mean the diffenrt perferfen, such as the one we used to use xx.exe -s , here the -s stands for silent install all the time..
any one tried this way to run bios update directly in xp??
thanx for all you ppl's help.
I saw the solution posted by Riddil a few days ago, and today he put a link in his post to Lenovo's site for the fix.qwert wrote:....but how could i turn the fn+f5 on?

Intel wireless adapters have limited connection methods and cannot be controlled via Fn + F5 - ThinkPad
