Is your X60 LCD panel hinge pretty loose?
Is your X60 LCD panel hinge pretty loose?
Comparing to T60 and T4x, the LCD panel hinge of X60 seems to be relatively not as tight. Is that normal for X60?
Thanks.
Thanks.

To me, that is not normal. The hindges should be on really tight, regardless of notebook type. The tightness is a something I noticed first when switching to thinkpads and have seen on my x40 and x60s.
thinkpad x40, type:2372-9EU, (2x) 512MB, 40GB HD (4200rpm), 802.11abg, CDC bluetooth
thinkpad x60s, type:1702-94U, (2X) 512MB, 40GB HD (5400rpm), 802.11abg, Ultralight LCD.

The hinges should be as tight as, if not tighter, than the T4X Thinkpad, especially if the T4X has been used a little (since the hinges loosen up from very tight to tight when you open and close the lid a few times; normal).

Yes, this is indeed normal. For example the torque specification for tightening a 25mm bolt is a lot higher than for a 10mm bolt.akhran wrote:Comparing to T60 and T4x, the LCD panel hinge of X60 seems to be relatively not as tight. Is that normal for X60?

I have 3 New ThinkPads (below) all about the same age and amount of usage. The Z60 has the most "drag" when closing the display. A close second to that is the T60, as the display size and weight are less than the Z and the two do not differ significantly. Then there is the lighter weight X60 with much smaller hinges, pivot points & much lighter display, thereby less "drag" when closing the lid.
If the X60 was as "tight" when closing the display, there would be more flexing and strain on the smaller hinges and case area.
In this case... size matters...
