Fellow legacy owner (390) reporting in!

#1 Post by Jazzper » Tue May 30, 2006 10:15 am

Just wanted to drop a hello line here.

I own a 64mb Thinkpad 390 (2626200) which runs 233 flabbergasting Megahertz with 64mb intern (2x32, but 2x64 or 2x128 incoming i hope) and just 2 gig HD (the original went dead).

I worked a time with Win98SE but all my usb devices needed special drivers (every usb stick the same routine...) and WiFi wasnt great either.

I formatted the beauty last weekend and tried Win2000. I didnt expect to get a workable laptop but it has turned into its second life! It works pretty well and no flaws at all (except a 233 aint very fast but hey.. our mass economy is fast lane enough).

I hope i can arrange some working fast memory soon.

Did i understand correctly the other slot is meant for a modem?

Yes the other compartment is for the modem. You can only use 2 sticks for a maximum of 256mb. Even if you put some PC100 in there, it will still run at PC66.

Windows 2000 does works great on those machines with either 128 or 256mb of ram.
