Z61t barebone for $350

#1 Post by schiesz » Tue May 30, 2006 3:20 pm

I just looked at the models available for the z61t, and there is one listed with the 1.4 ghz Celeron, with no memory, harddrive, or CD for $350.

This seems like a very good deal for a barebones laptop. Has anyone else seen this or have any thoughts? Any idea what type of harddrive interface the z61t uses?

I couldn't pass it up and ordered one. It appears I can get a gig of ram from mushkin for under $100, and I have a ultrabay slim combo drive and an intel ABG wireless card to use. Just need to figure out what kind of hard drive interface it needs and I should be all set. No telling until it gets here though.

I remember some of the newer thinkpads wouldn't work with generic intel wireless cards, does anyone know if the z61t is going to give me problems there?

Also, if anyone has any info regarding the HD interface i'm all ears.

Holy Moley....

The Z61t uses a SATA interface for the primary HDD. :)

Still, that is an amazing deal on a Z61t fresh from IBM/Lenovo. :D

Do you have a linky to it by any chance?

They actaully let you order one? I know when i was ordering my z60t, in the final checout stage it had a list of components and their quantity as well as price, and I saw a z60t w/ C-M 360 at 349 dollars. But when I actually tried to order it online it said there was an error because you cant order a barebone system. I called them as well and they said I couldnt have it with just the CPU, and I needed to buy the whole package.

Yep, it let me order it, I got a confirmation email and everything, so far so good. Hopefully this all goes through, i'd love to have a new thinkpad and for that price its a steal.

I got to it by going to the z series link, then clicking 'View all models'

It was at the top of the list, $350. There was a z61m for $470, and a z61t with Core Duo for $650 also.

I have a ship date listed of June 6 for my order.

do you havea a model # for the 61t 61m ?

they dont show for me.
i think you have some bug or something, still can be cool if i can get one of these.

$470 computer
$393 cpu (core duo 2.0)
$81 memory (1g)
$134 hard drive (seagate 100gb 5400)
________
$1078 for a nicely loaded z61m

with this price you can upgrade the cpu to 2.2 and the memory to 2g and stay below $1200

seruiously sweet.

I think it was a bug, or its all sold out, it would be very unusual for an IBM to offer that. But good deal none the less while it lasted.

BTW can you put the model number of your barebone z60t?

Part number is 944031U

It qualified for the free shipping promotion also!

I still see it says the z61t starts at $350, but when you goto the 'View all models' the lowest priced one is $849. And there appears to only be one model of z61t now, most are z60m.
