Games for T30

#1 Post by BikerMike » Tue May 30, 2006 4:56 pm

I use my desktop for gaming and my T30 for more serious stuff - but I like having a couple of games on there for when the occasion arises. Right now I have Age of Empires 2 and Unreal Tournament (GOTY edition, '99). Both run beautifully (and, thanks to a no-cd crack for AoE2, cd-lessly). But with only 16MB to store textures in, I'm guessing not many games run well. Has anyone gotten Diablo 2 to run on a T30? What other games run well?

Diablo 2 would be of trivial nature to a T30

Hi Mike
Diablo 2 runs fine on my T30. It was even fairly decent with my old 4200 rpm drive. The only issue I had was lag from the wireless.
You'll need a mouse. Trackpoints and touchpads don't cut it.

I just gave up D2 cause I'm hooked on Guild Wars: Factions. (sadly that won't run on a T30)

If you want some uber D2 gear PM me and I'll set you up.

I've played HL/CS, HL2DM/CSS, qw/q2/q3, bf1942 on my T30.

HL2 on a card with only 16MB? Wow.
I finally got Diablo 2 to run last night - the trick was selecting DirectDraw instead of Direct3D when it loads. Now if I could only find a no-cd patch for 1.11...

I can assure you, I am a poor, yet quite determined, gamer.
I wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't playable, especially in a (casual) competitive enviroment.
I wouldn't use it at a serious LANning event, but for miniLANs and random pick-up get togethers, it's more than adequate.

HL2 on TP

#9 Post by BikerMike » Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:03 am

I'm spoiled - the thought of playing my favorite game (HL2 and now HL2 Episode 1) on a system without at least 256MB for all those super textures makes me whimper. But it was only two years ago that I was playing Descent 3 on a system with only 8MB! I would never have made it through without help - the "transparent" windows were quite opaque; for one part of the game I had to go by a description in a walkthru and a stopwatch...

If you set, in the driver, the mode "high performance", disable the 32-bit z buffer and do a little oveclock of the graphic card, you can play some game like need for speen underground 1, if you don't dislike 800x600 resolution and almost all low details  , and maybe 16 bit color depth :( , but better than nothing!

Or there is the funny trackmania, it runs smooth!

I have been playing HL2 on my T30 without any problems, I used ATITool to overclock the graphics card has made a bit of a difference!

Also I installed a little heatsink over the GPU and its memory, just took it out of an old motherboard. it gets up to 300 core 220 mem, the memory doesn't like going past 250, I won't tweak it any further until I have done some benchmarks, sometimes overclcoking the core doesn't make a worthwhile difference.
