Hello - I have never gotten RAM from tigerdirect, so I can't recomend them.

However, I CAN recomend www.crucial.com - Their RAM is guranteed to work with your laptop or your money back - Also, they have a life time warranty: if the RAM stops working for whatever reason, they will replace it free of charge. I have done this in the past. They are great and NO, I am not affiliated with them :)

So, I'd probably say, check out crucial before buying. It may be even cheaper...

X60s (1704-4DU): 1.66 Core Duo, 1.5 GB RAM, 100 GB @ 7200 RPM drive, WinXP Pro

T40p: 1.6 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 60 GB @ 7200 rpm drive, 64 MB Video, 802.11 a/b, WinXP Pro

Crucial is also recommended by IBM, so it is a safe bet...

Just get any DDR333 PC2700 SODIMM RAM. 2.5-3-3 Latency, if you want to be even more specific. Should cost you around $100 flat. ALL RAM is Lifetime Guaranteed. That is to say, so long as it's the CORRECT RAM.. if it doesn't work, it's replaced or refunded.

Does upgrading RAM void IBM's warranty

While we are at this topic, does upgrading your RAM void IBM warranty at all? I would hope not, but if you have any experience, please share with us.

512MB to 1GB worth it?

#10 Post by cjsuh » Fri Aug 06, 2004 3:48 pm

Is it worth going from 512MB to 1GB RAM if you only plan on using your laptop for the basics - i.e. e-mail, internet, mp3, dvd, online poker, etc. - and not for crazy games or applications? Will I even notice any performance improvements? $100 seems like a reasonable price if it provides noticeable enhancements, but if not...

No, going from 512 MB to 1 GB would most likely not help at all for doing the things you mention. I had 512 MB for a very long time and it was enough until I started running things like coLinux and VMWare, which require a LOT of memory.
