I got a new to me 600X (2646-ED2). I would like info on getting a new battery(where and type), and info making this unit wireless internet compatible.

Any info concerning this unit would be a plus. Also any info you guys have done to upgrade you units. This will be used primarily for internet use...I have 2 very nice home puters that i use to run programs i need.... :D

Hi. Welcome to the forum!! :D

To answer the first two questions:

1. Battery - you can get them pretty much anywhere...eBay or even IBM still has them for $59, I think.

2. Wireless - you have several options...install a PCMCIA wireless card, a USB wireless case, or if you are more daring, I believe that the 600X has a mini-PCI slot, meaning that you could add internal wireless. This would mean that you could put the antenna either under the keyboard or attempt to stick them inside the display.

As for the other questions about upgrades, I think that there are several threads in here about upgrading a 600X.

What is the full model type number of your 600X? (ie. 2645-3EU)

 Sorry about that, going too quickly.

Since your machine appears to be speedstep capable, you can install all the way up to a PIII 850MHz MMC-2 CPU, and up to 576MB ram.

Check out this linkfor more info.

Welcome aboard, Jason.

Your 600X should be great for websurfing and other general, moderate computing uses.

The first, basic location for information about your unit is the IBM Support site. You can type in your model number in the "Quick Path" search box on any page and you will pull up a set of resources like this:
ThinkPad 600X 2646-ED2

Under the heading, Product Information, you'll find a link to a model-specific Product Information page.

In terms of upgrading the CPU, you'll want to do some more research before trying to go ahead with it. I'm not sure that your machine is SpeedStep capable, but the link that tfflivemb2 provides above will take you to a thread that discusses all that.

Phil.

A PCMCIA Wireless card...

Dlink,Linksys,Netgear,etc.....Any will work...Thats it!!!

Assuming you have braodband and a wireless router....
1 T23 1.13 Mhz.SXGA+..512 RAM..Built in Wireless
1 T23 1.13 Mhz..256 RAM...
1 600e that now a 600x(500Mhz) with 256 RAM
1 600x(500 Mhz) with 327 Ram
1 600x upgraded to 600Mhz with 256 RAM
